Extracellular Vesicle Mimetics: Preparation from Top‐Down Approaches and Biological Functions (Adv. Healthcare Mater. 19/2022)

نویسندگان

چکیده

Extracellular Vesicle Mimetics vesicles mimetics (EVMs) prepared from top-down approaches exhibit superiority both in production and biological properties as potential alternatives of extracellular (EVs). By extruding through membrane filters with decreased pore sizes, EVMs can be produced a large scale. In article 2200142, Chenhui Gu, Liqing Shangguan, Xianfeng Lin co-workers summarize the preparation characteristics terms structure, composition, targeting ability, cellular uptake mechanism, immunogenicity, well their strengths limitations. The clinical applications fields tumor therapy, immunomodulation, tissue repair disease diagnosis are also discussed.

Metamaterials: Snapping Mechanical Metamaterials under Tension (Adv. Mater. 39/2015).

By exploiting snap-through instabilities, D. Pasini and co-workers design a damage-tolerant mechanical metamaterial that snaps sequentially under tension, thereby accommodating a very large deformation up to 150%. On page 5931, they describe how the nonlinear mechanical response of the metamaterial can be robustly programmed by tuning the architecture of its unit cell.

Insight into Biological Apatite: Physiochemical Properties and Preparation Approaches

Biological apatite is an inorganic calcium phosphate salt in apatite form and nano size with a biological derivation. It is also the main inorganic component of biological hard tissues such as bones and teeth of vertebrates. Consequently, biological apatite has a wide application in dentistry and orthopedics by using as dental fillers and bone substitutes for bone reconstruction and regeneratio...

Biological properties of extracellular vesicles and their physiological functions

In the past decade, extracellular vesicles (EVs) have been recognized as potent vehicles of intercellular communication, both in prokaryotes and eukaryotes. This is due to their capacity to transfer proteins, lipids and nucleic acids, thereby influencing various physiological and pathological functions of both recipient and parent cells. While intensive investigation has targeted the role of EV...

Synthetic approaches to Small Cluster Oligosaccharide Mimetics

We have synthesized a variety of Small Cluster Oligosaccharide Mimetics (SCOM) with presumably enhanced metabolic stability. Their monosaccharidic units are linked by non-physiological C-C or C-N bonds, and/or include unphysiological or L-configurated polyhydroxy derivatives. SCOM are designed to be small enough to enter cells or bacteria via cell membranes or cell walls, respectively. Therefor...

Mechanisms and functions of extracellular vesicle release in vivo—What we can learn from flies and worms

Cells from bacteria to man release extracellular vesicles (EVs) that contain signaling molecules like proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids. The content, formation, and signaling roles of these conserved vesicles are diverse, but the physiological relevance of EV signaling in vivo is still debated. Studies in classical genetic model organisms like C. elegans and Drosophila have begun to reveal th...
